“The only rainbow I ever saw over the desert
came off of an overheated jacked-up 68 Chevy Nova.
That car had the prettiest pin striping.
We put towels in the ice cooler to soak up water
so we would cool off once the heat of the day came on.
Out there in that desert heat,
everything takes on new appearances.
I’ll tell ya.
I remember those twisted rainbow pin stripes
started dancing right off that car
and turning all kinds of colors.
A real rainbow mirage.”
