Written for Susanna Leonard Hill’s 7th Annual Halloweensie Contest for children’s writers.
Must be a story 100 words or less, using the words monster, candy corn, and shadow within the tale.
Enjoy a bit of fudge for Halloween!
Sam dressed up as Tom Thumb
he was hoping to get a pack of gum
to glue his thumb into his mouth
while trick or treating house to house.
But instead he got candy corn
baby teeth when a monster’s born.
Yellow, white, orange, brown
they pull them out and throw them down.
In the shadows under trees
Candy corn sprouts monster tea
a mossy, slimy, slippery sludge
monsters drink with people fudge.
So when Sam went searching for candy grail
he ended up as candy kale
an intricate part of people fudge
a Halloween treat that monsters love.

Ooooohhhh, people fudge. Not sure I could eat treats with a face, but I’d be willing to give it a try, LOL. But then adding sludge to drink, well, I might pass on that one. Sweet story!

Face filled fudge and slimy sludge aren’t high on my list either. Guess we wouldn’t make good monsters 🙂

There seems to be a theme this year of monsters and witches eating people. Your fudge looks interesting and I love the explanation of where candy corn comes from! Good luck.

So cute! It’s funny – my son lost his ‘fang teeth’ just before Halloween, and I was tempted to tell him to put candy corn in the holes. I didn’t though – our dentist would probably scold me.
