Toodles McRoodles awoke
With a head full of doodles
She got up and began to draw
Lizard-eyed scoodles
Millipede snoodles
Round-stacked baboodles
Hump-back katootles
Dog-eared pinkpoodles
Left-winged snapfoodles
And
Jelly-fact noodles
“Finally,” she said,
“I can go back to bed”
Then suddenly she heard
A stampede of words
Running loose…
again.

#50 Precious Words Writing Challenge
March 2nd is the birthday of the incredible Theodore Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. Last year I put together a little contest based on Bennet Cerf’s challenge to Seuss to write a children’s book using only 50 words. And the classic Green Eggs and Ham was born. It’s true that the story has over 700 words…but only 50 unique words.
I thought it would be fun to try to write a story for kids with ONLY 50 words. With a beginning, a middle, and an end. I wondered if I could do it. And then I opened the challenge to everyone. Much to my surprise and amazement, there were 128 entries! Ayear has past…and it’s time to DO IT AGAIN.
Please put on your thinking caps and get busy writing. You have until March 6th at 11:59pm to post your story.
Oodles of fun words…nice job!

O, Mamma Mia! Are they real words? No wonder I heard the stampede even before it began!

a whole herd of new words to learn 😉
This is for a children’s story writing contest using 50 words (or faux words) put on by Vivian Kirkfield in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
I’ve never entered a contest before so here’s to first times.

Here’s to first times, indeed. Great job channeling Dr. Seuss, Vicki! I LOVE all of your new words! And kids would love them also…your story was a testament to creativity…and would encourage kids to be creative also. Thanks so much for joining in the fun.

Yes…I’m a bit OCD and have to finish completely before I can rest completely 🙂
So glad you enjoyed it Joanne. Thanks!

What a rollicking fun invention of words. I can just imagine some of these drawings and am flamboozled by the others. Good Luck.

Love all the witty neologisms! You did Dr. Seuss proud! And I think many of us writers can identify with the “stampede of words/Running loose/again . . .” A funny and fanciful yet very relatable story.
