To You Who Serve

To the men and women who gave up their lives so we have a future filled with freedoms. To their families who are left with only memories and a future without their loved ones in it – your freedom comes especially hard – the ultimate sacrifice.

To the soldiers who have suffered physical and mental damage…you are not less perfect now…you are more perfected for sacrificing for the sake of others – many people you have never met and who may or may not realize the sacrifice involved – you have made a tremendous difference for them.

To the soldiers that have fought in battles from the beginning of society, until today, and will fight on into the future, we hope for peace while we pray for your safety.

To the soldiers who have endured as prisoners of war…may God bless you especially.

To the mom who raises the kids without the help of dad. To dad who struggles to be mom while she’s away.  To the kids who live with grandma and grandpa or just mom or just dad while their loved one serves overseas or are away for military and/or educational training. To the soldier who worries about their families but willingly puts duty first.

To the military career families who move every six months to three years. Friends made and left; new homes, schools, neighborhoods, towns, states, countries that may or may not be as accepting and accommodating as the last; growing up with no place to call home, no roots to ground you and keep you settled sometimes for the rest of your life.  Your lives are uprooted constantly and only those who have done the same truly understand what a sacrifice this really is.

Today is a day to celebrate the honor, respect, and appreciation we have for each one of you. Without you, life would be so very different for each of us. I offer a heartfelt thank-you.

God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. Hebrews 6:10
