The second excerpt from a novel in verse – A Cup of Cold Water – Memoir of a Teenage Mother
Wednesdays – education class
at the salon
in at 10:00 a.m. out at 10:00 p.m.
or later
Off to pick up a sleeping child
then head home
you always awakened
Let’s sing, mom…
we did
“Ohhhhhh, victory in Jesus”
you sang loud
“My savior forever”
you sang off key
“He sought me and He bought me
with his redeeming blood.”
you sang with heart
“He loved me ere I knew him”
you sang with conviction
“and all my love is due him”
you sang with sweetness
“He PUNCHED me to victoryeeeeeeee
beneath the cleansing flood.”
you sang with all your might
I smiled….and did my best
not to laugh
at prophetic words
What a sweet memory!!! Love how children sing with their whole heart!!!

Unforgettable moments such as those contain the meaning of life. The mis-worded lyrics and the off-key strains of a child are like the soft glow of a rising sun, full with the promise of a radiant day. I would like to read the entire book.

Beautifully said, Uma.
When I finish writing it, find an agent, then a publisher, and get it printed….I’ll send a copy to you. You can review it for me 🙂
